2026 Guatemala Harvest Update: 🇬🇹❄️☕

2026 is off to a strong start.
Harvest started on time this year. Exports started in January.
Predictions pointed to bigger yields. Everything looked good. Then Guatemala got hit with the coldest temperatures in 16 years.
The cold weather threatens the yield forecast. It's uncertain wether the cold weather will lead to slower ripening and sweeter coffees or if the cherries will not survive the cold.
Harvest delays are now expected as cherries take longer to reach optimal maturation. Extended ripening could improve cup quality (more time on the tree often does). Depending on the length of cold, there is a risk that weather can negatively impact yield. It also delays cash flow for farmers, complicates labor scheduling, and pushes back deliveries. At the time of writing, the harvest is 75% complete, and it appears that volumes across some areas were impacted.

This is coffee. You can't control the weather. You can only stay close to your partners, communicate honestly with your customers, and adapt.
After 15 years, we are used to harvest updates curve balls.
For Coffee Bird customers: We're monitoring daily and will update timelines as the harvest progresses. For everyone else: Guatemala 2026 might arrive later than expected. Plan accordingly.
